Thinking with my stomach

I'm in a baking mood this weekend, and since the Pirates have recently learned the word "pretzel" I thought this would be a good time to bust out my mad pretzel making skills. Plus I was dying to try this garlic jalapeño cheese dip, so any excuse was a good one.

The recipe makes 12 pretzels. Many of which did not make it to this photo. We salute those who fell behind in the name of tastiness. 

Pretty tasty looking, no? I stuck to my favorite pretzel recipe instead of the one accompanying the cheese dip - why mess with it if it isn't broken, right? The dip itself...ehhh. I was surprisingly underwhelmed considering how tasty all the separate ingredients are. Garlic! Jalapeños! Cheese! How could it go wrong? But the final product was a bit blah, and I don't think the flavors had enough time to come together properly the way the sauce was cooked. I think if I was going to make it again, I'd take the time to roast the garlic and jalapeños (or at least lightly sauté them) first.

Still, not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
