Childfree

I'm home alone for the first time in a year and a half. Ben has taken the Pirates to visit their grandparents in our old town, and since I suffer crazeballs allergies there this time of year, I've stayed behind.

At a playgroup earlier this week, another mother asked me about my plans for the weekend, and I told her that I'd be hanging out solo on Sunday. "Oh great!" she exclaimed, "You'll be able to catch up on chores!"

Whaaaaa? I have a free day with no demands on my time for the first time in a year and a half and you think I'm going to scrub the baseboards? LIKE I AM SO SURE.

I promptly told her that I planned to sit on my ass, drink coffee, goof off online and read books.

She promptly gave me the most condescending Look I've ever seen.

Clearly I missed the day they passed out the Susie Homemaker Kool-Aid.

Look, I enjoy having a clean house as much as the next person. But my life hardly revolves around it.

Likewise, I love my children. They're funny, crazy, amazing little bundles of awesome. I would also lose my freaking mind if I never took any time to do things just for me.

So now I'm going to go make another cup of coffee and find some pointless time wasters on the internet. Yeah, that's right, Susie - I live on the edge!

3 shout-outs:

  2. My husband often takes my girls to the playground on a weekend so I supposedly can do housework - never ever happens!! It's now a running joke as to how much cleaning mummy can do when she is lying on the couch!!
