I haz a puppy. He haz a name.

You might want to go get a cup of tea and a snack or something - this is going to be a long post.

It's official: we have a winner! For the majority of the poll, Jack held a comfortable lead, but was suddenly challenged in a surprising late surge from Indiana supporters.* When the puppy arrived, the two were in a dead heat:

So we decided to watch the little guy for a while and see what name his personality suggested. And it was immediately apparent. When the puppy met Korben the Wonder Dog, he didn't cry or appear nervous, but barked sharply and shoved aside Korben's pesky inquiring nose. This is clearly a puppy who isn't taking shit from anyone, even if they are ten times his size - and that's a adventurous action hero attitude if I've ever seen one. And so, I present to you, for the first time on the interwebs:

INDIANA

Want the really good news? Korben and Indy get along like a house on fire. Korben has always been sociable, and I didn't expect him to be aggressive or standoffish because that's simply not his nature, but we were still startled at his reaction - he just accepted Indiana's presence and moved on. Of course, that's not to say Korben ignored the puppy completely - in fact, he's quite smitten with the little fellow, following him around the yard, play wrestling (I wish I could get a photo, but every time I step outside, they suddenly stop) and cozying up for a nap when the pup fell asleep on the deck.

"Is present for me, yes? I get to keep? I promise I takes good care of it."

Speaking of sleeping...

I love macro shots. It's a sickness, really.

The cats, on the other hand, feel that a well timed assassination would be the best solution:

They might be a little hard to see, but that's them lurking behind the screen, staring daggers at the new puppy.

And now, the requisite photo shoot - feel free to "awwww!" whenever you like (click for larger images):

He's a very thoughtful puppy. Korben was very impetuous - he'd see something and instantly have to go investigate it. Indy just likes to sit and watch for a while until he decides what to do. Just sitting...and watching...and thinking.

Eight weeks old and he's already taller and more gangly than Korben was at twelve weeks. This is going to be a bigger dog than we expected! As a side note, I really like the way the treatments I chose for this photo worked out. Kind of vintage-y.

Family portrait time. Clockwise, from top left: Indy, look at the camera. Korben, stop yawning. Aha, we got one! Aaaand..bored and leaving.

I am fully aware that these are crap shots. If you'd spent 20 damn minutes trying to get a puppy to run around the yard without suddenly sitting down to scratch or deciding that the grass could use a thorough investigation, you'd post them too.

This used to be an old Kong Wubba of Korben's...now it's just a few ooky tentacles. But apparently it's still the best toy out of the 512 we have in the yard!

Thank god for dog toys. Otherwise those would probably be a pair of my shoes, and that would NOT have a happy ending.

This, by the way, is what a lot of your puppy shots will end up looking like. Oh and see those burrs in the grass in the left photo? Anyone know how to get rid of those? We have an infestation.

I swear we don't give the dog booze.

Really we don't.

It's hard to take photos when all your puppy wants to do is crawl between your legs and sleep.

It's been a big day for a little doggie.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that we made the right decision in getting a companion for Korben - I'm so glad we adopted Indy!

P.S. After we chose his name, I delightedly realized that I now can privately (privately! I wouldn't inflict this on the rest of the world), refer to him as "Indiana Bones." See what I did there??? Bones! Like Jones, but with a B! Get it? HAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm so funny! *sigh* Poor dog...

* Honorable mentions go to Tina, who suggested that we name the dog Benji (so it can be Ben's mini me), and Lisa, who thought Borat could be a contender (there's a long running joke about Ben wearing the infamous swimsuit).

7 shout-outs:

Ha! Indiana Bones - love it. That's as good as the cats' names: Chairman Meow and Fidel Catstro.
