Following my last post, I stumbled across the fabulous "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks.
A former boss of mine did this all the damn time in his client newsletters - along with the aforementioned random capitalization AND random bolding AND random underlining AND the overuse of exclamation marks, so a sentence could look like this: "as the 'quarterly figures' show, our sales have increased by 10%!!!"
It drove me crazy, especially since I wasn't allowed to correct anything; I could only copy and paste his text into the template. Thankfully, his newsletters were only published quarterly - otherwise I probably would have spent far more time curled in a fetal position under my desk and sucking on my elbow.
Feel free to add it to your list of Lisa's Grammatical Peeves if you're playing along at home!
